Hello 5th grade families!
It was a short week at school but we accomplished a lot in ELA! Now that we have finished reading Promises to Keep, we have been listening to other recordings and reading other essays to analyze what factors other people thought made Jackie successful in breaking the color barrier. Next week, we will be comparing these points of views. There will be a test on Wednesday in ELA. On this test, students will watch a new video and examine the point of view of the speaker and compare it to other points of view we have been learning about (Jackie's, Rachel's or Sharon's). We will continue to practice this on Monday/Tuesday. I will post a list of items the students can review on Google Classroom prior to the test. ** Please continue to send in the signed permission slips. Thank you! Have a great weekend! Ms. Butala Hello 307 families!
Happy snowy Friday! We had a great week back together at school. In ELA, we started with a ONE word project. Students identified one word that they wanted to use as a guide for 2024. They reflected on why that word and how they hoped it would impact their year. I encourage you to ask your child what they chose! We also had our first ukulele lesson! Students loved learning about the parts of an ukulele and started to learn the first few notes. Another new activity we will begin next week is meeting with our kindergarten reading buddies! For our first meeting on Wednesday, we are asking 307 buddies to bring in a favorite picture book to read to their Kinder buddy. We are going to meet on an every other week basis. Other updates for next week: * No school on Monday- MLK Day * In ELA, we will begin unit 2 in our Social Change module- this will be much more writing based * Greek and Latin Unit 3 test will be Friday * STAR math testing will be on Thursday * STAR reading testing will be in Friday * January Independent Reading Assessment is due 1/30 ** If your child has headphones, please send them on our testing days next week Hope everyone has a safe weekend, stay warm!
